My Message to the Holy Father

This is my video response to recent statements made by Pope Benedict regarding gay marriage and the definition of family. This is my personal opinion. I may not have an audience of millions, but I need to say it aloud for my family.

@522susanh Thank you. We dont threaten anyone. Even those who disagree. In fact, we embrace them and welcome them into our home. Only then will they truly feel the love of our family. We are a community. We are family. Regardless of bloodlines, we are one. Its time we embrace it.

You and your partner may have a stable relationship and not have a hidden agenda, but you are not the rule, you are the exception. There is a widespread gay agenda that threatens the religious free speech, the structure of the traditional family and the innocence of our children, among other things.

As a catholic you should understand that you are entitled to God's mercy, but that homossexuality is and will always be a sin, and that the Church's highest authority cannot condescend with it.

@luisgentil My parents were heterosexual. I value all versions of "family." These units are ones of respect, unconditional love, forgiveness, acceptance, and support. I celebrate the traditional family.

@thrivemom Thank you very much! I shared my story to show that I am still proud of my faith--a faith that formed my family. A faith STRENGTHENED by my family. They are symbiotic. Regardless of any opinion, I know God sent us our children and smiles on our family. Comments like yours reinforces this belief. Blessings to you and yours!

@davidbrian2009 Then why in the bible does it say that gays are an abomination? If you live a good life, help others and be a selfless person from birth 'til death but don't believe, 'God' STILL condemns you to hell... Yet rapists and murderers that ask for forgiveness are instantly absolved, and are allowed into the kingdom of heaven? This is the god that you worship according to HIS OWN WORD. Is that the God you want to follow?

Hey David, I'm an atheist, but before you stop reading this like most 'believers' please read this and consider. The bible states, praying for forgiveness will absolve you of any sins, murder and rape included. However if a man lives a good life, helps his community and lives morally, but doesn't believe, he is still condemned to hell. You can be a good person without believing. Why do you feel you need religion? if you make a difference in life, why do you care what happens to you after death?

You are so awesome David!! I myself graduated from the foster care system and can honestly say that love, compassion, and acceptance knows no sexual orientation. Friendship and respect knows no boundaries...why should our religion?
