In Memory of Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton Assasinated. October, 31 2009

SEATTLE - A police manhunt continued on Sunday for a suspect who opened fire on a Seattle police officer and a police trainee late Saturday night. The officer died and the trainee was wounded.

The shooting happened Halloween night in the Leschi neighborhood near 29th Avenue South and East Yesler Way. Seattle Police Department Assistant Chief Jim Pugel said "a student officer who recently graduated from the Police Academy and her training officer were parked in their police car when the suspect pulled up alongside them and opened fire.

According to Pugel, the student officer ducked and was only grazed by a bullet, but the male officer who was training was hit and killed. Pugel says the student officer got out of the car and shot back at the suspect but got away.

Pugel says the deadly assault on the Officers was totally unprovoked, and the department is using every resource available to hunt down and find the killer.

Multiple neighbors said they heard as many as 13 shots fired.

The name of the male Officer that was killed is not being released at this time, neither is the name of the student officer who survived the attack.

A large procession of Seattle Police cars and Seattle Fire Department Units brought the officer's body to the King County Medical Examiner's Office early Sunday Morning. Officers say they have limited details about the suspect and his vehicle. They say he was driving a smaller gray car.

This marks the first police officer killed in the line of duty in the city since 2006. In August 2006, rookie officer Joselito Barber was killed when a woman drove her sport utility vehicle through a red light and broadsided his patrol car.

@abram730 Its OK I understand getting worked up over the cops. They are assholes. However Being a news photographer I know alot of cops. Most are the guys we used to beat the crap out of in high school and they became cops for no other reason than revenge. Tim Brenton was not one of them. I knew him well. He was a good cop!
