Footage of the German-built Henschel tank engines at the Boothbay Railway Village in Boothbay Maine. The engine shown was built in 1934. These tank engines, in German feldbahnlok (field railway engine), were used in construction such as the autobahn, on industrial sites, and after the war to help clear the rubble. In Maine they are running on 2ft. track. Also shown on the video are an abandoned boiler and a retired engine. Bemusing is the very deep, mournful American whistle on the engine. The original one was much higher pitched.
The engine running is one of two engines running at the Village, and the one I would later drive as part of the Village's steam course. Filmed 2002. More info on the Railway Village at http://www.railwayvillage.org/

  • @papphausen2 It may say "retubed ??-??-01"

  • @papphausen2 BTW No. 7 is back in service again. :)

  • Nice footage of #6! That engine was actually built in 1934. #13 was built in 1913, That's where it gets it's number.
