The company Covanta is one of the Central Valley's biggest polluters, yet every year they sponsor Earth Day at Graceda Park in Modesto.

  • Congratulations Anti-Covanta supporters! For the 1st time in 15 years Covanta DID NOT have a booth at Modesto's 2010 Earth Day. Unfortunately they did still sponsor it. Please tell the City of Modesto that you don't want polluters sponsoring Earth Day no matter how much money they give!

  • Typically bully Hippie. You like to intimidate other people but erase any critical comment about you. Your arguments are juvenile. It's too bad those guys who probably just wanted to get out of work and hand out pens didn't make a better case for themselves. Incinerator or Boiler? Also I suppose you would prefer 100% of the metals go into a landfill instead of trace amounts? If you don't want recyclables in the trash don't put them there. Teachers? morons! Try known to [science] man.

  • I deleted your first comment because it was just plain stupid. Hippies? Try people who live in communities where the children are born with asthma and other breathing problems at higher rates. Intimidate? We were the ones who were forced out of a public place. Covanta is allowed to hand out pens, but we can't hand out paper with real facts about Covanta. When your kid is born with a breathing condition because of pollutants we'll see who turns into a hippie. Covanta = Environmental Racism!

  • THESE TWO ARE BOZO'S WAITING TO GO HOME AND DRINK BEER I'M SURE. NOT EXACTLY THE BEST PICK TO PROMOTE INCINERATION OR IS IT?

  • To answer this guys question metal does not burn. So no it is not burned however, this doesn't mean it is not present as it would be impossible to source separate all metals and recyclables from the waste stream, it is very hazardous and dangerous work and must be done by human decisions on most items. Incineration is not the answer. Even the ash from these types of waste to energy plants must be treated as hazardous, this can't be a good thing.

  • If a product is burned it is incinerated. Look it up in the dictionary. I am saying no plastics. Everything that we use plastics for can be replaced with other non-toxic materials. You must not understand the concept of a water table. Look at the name you gave yourself, a name like burnout , stupid. You must be one of the goons at covanta. Fuck your mother.

  • Like I said, typical. Just call me a name and that will shut me up. I can't teach you science in 500 characters. Boilers are not incinerators, sorry. I do understand the difference. Shouldn't make plastics? So you're saying no plastics? Not even medical equipment. You drink landfill runoff? Probably should talk to your town about that. Also don't have space to explain the water cycle to you. Very sad how much you people hate instead of thinking of innovative ways to help. again, typical.

  • I think that your the one who doesn't understand the process of incineration. Plastics shouldn't be created in the first place, that is a burden that industry has to carry. We don't create products. Have you ever heard of the ash that is created during incineration and where do you think that ends up. Yup, the land fill and then in our drinking water. For a righty, you sure have a lot of confidence in big government doing a good job. Good job, little Bush.

  • Two words that aren't every associated with each other is bully and hippie. I don't know how our arguments are juvenile when your the one name calling. Covanta emits dioxin, one of the deadliest chemicals known to man. You do know that metals are recyclable, right? I don't put metals into the garbage, large corporations give them to Covanta and Covanta in return gives regular people asthma, cancer, and death.

  • kills people for money.
