My dad had alzhiemers and was in a nursing home for 2yrs I was told he had a few more days to live and I laid with him each day with one earbud in his ear and one in mine, we listened to music together til he died a few days later. There was that smile on his face when he heard the music. Now when I play my mp3 it brings a smile to my face knowing we listened to that music togeher til he died. : (

I used to work in a hospital and they had some religious channels on the t.v. If I knew the patient was religious and was particularly agitated, I would put the religious music channel on and put the remote with the volume right by their pillow and it would have an instant calming effect. Instead of pumping someone full of sedatives, the music had it's own sedating effect. Ipods are a lot cheaper and have less side effects than meds. I'm all for it!

This is quite amazing... I personally almost always have my iPod on and my earbuds in my ears... In fact, I probably spend more time in my day listening to music than not... It's truly amazing what music does. I've seen a quote quite a few times now, and would like to share it because I believe it is absolutely true: "Music is what feelings sound like."

God forbid -- I don't see how. Those songs are about nihilism, gratuitous gang violence and death. Not exactly something that would encourage or lift one's spirit.
