The song "Heimweh" by Norbert Schultze and Hans Leip has nothing to do with the 1950's song by Freddy Quinn.

The Lyrics to the song "Heimweh/ Weisst Du noch zu Haus wo der Flieder stand" (Homesick / Do you remember where the lilacs used to be back home) were originally a poem by Hans Leip, written in 1926. Hans Leip was of course the lyricist of the immortal "Lili Marleen" for which Norbert Schultze composed the music. It became world famous when recorded by Lale Andersen (in 1939, initially with little succes) and broadcast by Sender Belgrad (German radio station in occupied Yugoslavia).

The same Norbert Schultze wrote the music for "Heimweh" which is presented here. Singer Anita Spada recorded it with Heinz Munsonius and his orchestra as a B-side to her version of "Lili Marleen" (which will be presented at a later time).

It is a rather unusual and very melancholic song, recalling how silent peaceful life is back home...

When I came across this color footage of Berlin in the summer of 1945, showing not only the destruction but also life starting again among the ruins , I felt the music and images seemed to go very well together - even though they are years apart.

About the record :

The record is a well used one, but in my opinion it adds character to the video

Record transferred without intervention/cleaning effects.

  • PERFECT - in every way !

And I also feel that the music and images seem to go very well together - if "well" suits the reflection that may arise in our souls, minds...-

I take it to my favorities, E.

And remain with admiration for your digital YT skills - (introducing a BIG KINO screen) about which I have not any idea, let alone how to manage them...-

  • Thank you J!

  • Thank you for your poastings! Really interesting and also shocking videos in colour!

I also have this record with Heimweh/Lied eines jungen Wachpostens/Imperial/Anita Spada! Do you know more about the singer?
