@TheLAgS11 with their engine boosters called "scamjets". These "scamjets" are actually engine boosters that increase the speed of the craft from 1000 to 1400 kilometers per hour. The scamjets were not to be used in battle because a sharp turn could rip the craft apart. Anonymous rebel pilot: "We were told not to use the scamjets in battle, but it was just too tempting @ Mon Cal. It doesn't get much better than overtaking one of those droid ties with the scamjet."
The tie/d was produced by the Imperial Remnant Forces shortly after the battle of Endor. One of it's largest engagements was at the battle of Mon Calamari, where they were mass-produced by Imperial superweapons called world devastators that use massive tractor beams to literally rip apart a planet and convert the raw items into usable materials. However, the New Republic V-wing, in their first use after replacing the Modified T-47 Airspeeders speeders ripped the tie/d's to shreds (cont.)

The Droid Tie or Tie/D appeared only in the book Star Wars Dark Empire!
He is identical armed like the normal Tie Fighter, but he is not manned.
He is controlled by a droid brain, he hasn't any shilds and is almost cheap as the Tie FIghter.
Super vid.
