To be clear, due to some of the incorrect comments I've read here - there is a BIG difference between a Vet tech and a Vet assistant. A vet tech. is the position that requires you to go to school accredited by the AVMA as well as pass a national exam to be qualified to work as a Vet Tech. A Vet assistant however, does not require formal schooling, and you learn as you are on the job. A Vet assistants job duties involve more of the mundane tasks such as : cleaning the cages, etc.

@Edu411 You don't need to years of college for a vet assistant, its a veterinarian technician where you need the two years of college

I am 13 and I want to become a vet assistant , but how can I volunter at a local spca. I lova animals, I have 2 cats, 1 rabbit, 5 birds, 2 turtles, and 14 golfishes. All I do with my life is go to school and take care of my animals. I do not even have a boy friend

at least you only need 2 years of college to become a vet asst. veterinarians need a lot more college.
