@themaineguy I'm sure Stephen Murray has his side of the story, however, I find it very unusual that the police academy instructor would throw a fellow officer under the bus like that and tell cadets that this trooper got into hot water with internal affairs because of complaints from people he stopped that claimed he verbally berated them and exacerbated the situation. Granted, the academy instructor did say that stops should be done in the manner seen in this video.

@rong7676 actually rong you're wrong. I guided whitewater rafts with Steve (the trooper in this video). There is more to this video which I saw in its entirety. Off guard with someone grabbing a clipboard - perhaps, but also note how Steve holds his pen from that point forward due to the unpredictable nature of this offender - as a defensive weapon if needed. Steve was a good guy - he happened to run into someone who was a bit unstable as the rambling indicates.

They showed this video when I was at the police academy. We watched the video and responded the same way most everyone here responded. Turns out the trooper had his camera off for the first part of the traffic stop where he riled up the motorist. Our instructor also had us note that the trooper was caught off guard by the guy reaching out and grabbing at his clipboard, seen at :05.

This cop is a perfect example of how they should all act.
I am not sure the outcome would have been the same if he had forgotten the camera was running, though.
But I give him a perfect score of 10 for keeping his cool.
