This is a clip from the legendary Shea Stadium Concert that broke The Beatles ticket sales record. A record that still stands today (38 years later) & will forever stand. I'm proud to say this video is in the permanent archives of Shea Stadium & The N.Y. Mets. Yes, this is the real deal, the Grand Funk Railroad "Power Trio" we all love at the peak of their great career. Grand Funk Railroad is America's Band. This is a historic concert that folks still rave about. If you were there, feel lucky, because you were a part of history. This is considered by many to be one of the greatest concerts in the short history of "Hard Rock/Metal". Grand Funk Railroad was truly a "Performance Vehicle." It is amazing that this record has stood this long, a testament to how great & influincial this band was in the early 1970's. Check out the link below to see what Mark Farner has to say today about this historic performance. Grand Funk Railroad ruled the world from '69-'76 becoming the first band to earn 10 consecutive platinum albums! Some call it "Industrial Rock". You'll see no lazers or pyro here, just some of the greatest music ever performed live. Shea Stadium suffered structural damage after this show. In fact, the concert was almost stopped because Shea Stadium was oscillating from the excited crowd. Everybody, listen to me,
And return me, my ship.
Im your captain, Im your captain,
Although Im feeling mighty sick.

Ive been lost now, days uncounted,
And its months since Ive seen home.
Can you hear me, can you hear me,
Or am I all alone.

If you return me, to my home port,
I will kiss you mother earth.
Take me back now, take me back now,
To the port of my birth.

Am I in my cabin dreaming, or are you really scheming,
To take my ship away from me?

Youd better think about it, I just cant live without it.
So, please dont take my ship from me.
Yeah, yeah, yeah ...

I can feel the hand, of a stranger,
And its tightening, around my throat.
Heaven help me, heaven help me,
Take this stranger from my boat.

Im your captain, Im your captain,
Although Im feeling mighty sick.
Everybody, listen to me,
And return me, my ship.

Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Im your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Im getting closer to my home ...
Im getting closer to my home ...
Im getting closer to my home ...
Im getting closer to my home ...
Ohhhh ...

Im getting closer to my home ...
Im getting closer to my home ...
Im getting closer to my home ...
Im getting closer to my home ...
Repeated to fade

  • Greatest tune of all time. Led Zeppelin can kiss my ass.

  • @theriotpress

    I hear that brother!

  • Grand Funk Railroad is what I consider the epitome of what Rock and Roll is supposed to be -- a three piece garage band that went on to be the most popular band in the world. They were simple and they were crude and they rocked with a vengeance without pretense or apology. Their live show was 100% energy. It was raw and it was real. For all us Funk Fans who remember, NOTHING CAN REPLACE IT!!

    That is rock and roll.

The sad part is The Hall of Fame has no idea what I'm even saying.

The first American Band to earn 10 consecutive platinum albums was GFRxR.

  • @dilloss ..a bit Stupid? Then, look back at 'your' very words... 'must be the undisputed kings of rock.Popular on both sides of the Atlantic.' GFR is the top 'Classic Rock' selling band for the above mentioned era. Research more on the 'net & you will eat your words. As PackedFunk mentioned - in America... they were the Top Selling Live Show for their era, also. Research, man.

  • @theriotpress Agreed....We did not need a british band to rock america then or now. GFRR was a legend in there own time and still are, the old tunes dont die!
