@rfhanover1 Art Tatum always had insane variation from performance to performance not only melodically, but harmonically as well. Just like all the other great stride pianists, everything that played was constantly being rearranged in a capricious nature. Just watch the youtube video titled "Art Tatum plays Too Marvelous for Words (1940-1950)" and listen to his crazy variations between the two. If you can't hear that, then ask your music teacher or a local music professor.
Those runs at 1:44 and 1:48 are particularly impressive. oh who am i kidding the whole thing is really impressive! And im sure youre not reading this but don't listen to anyone who says its not cool to play note for note, jazz is what you make it, honestly some seriously great jazz pianists have played some songs exactly the same. Her second performance was nearly note for note with almost no variation. :( Sorry to say, but that's not jazz.
