Chuck Mellick hits the practice field to throw long ball practice. According to Alan Jaegar on the Manteca Academy website, a long toss of 300 feet equates to roughly a 90 mile-per-hour pitch at 60 feet. Chuck Mellick's right arm long tosses are hitting beyond 350 feet and his left arm max is around 275 feet. So his pitching speed is around 95 miles an hour right hand on his long toss and 84 - 85 miles an hour on his left hand long toss.

  • How fast have you thrown a baseball crow hop and all???

  • Chuck has not posted that info. Hammer

  • dono bout description..just cuz you can hit 350ft dont mean you can throw 95. i throw at 330-360 when im conditioned and sit 89-91....i cant even believe hes hitting 350 with those mechanics but ive seen crazier

  • Mellick is certainly hitting 350 on his long toss. His pitching mechanics have improved tremendously in the last year. He is breaking 90 mph in the league he pitches. That is very good for a 39 year old with a day time job. Post some of your long toss so we can see your mechanics. Hammer

  • ill post some this week when i go out...was at 315(warning track) hitting the backstop 20 feet up last time i went......this hammer from letstalkpitching?

  • Looking forward to seeing your post. Try to get it in slow motion too, if possible. Hammer

  • no way REAL

  • Nice Bob Feller form. I've been getting into long toss recently and can throw about 230. 300 is harder than it looks.

  • @2seam4seam i dont know u tell me whats ur max!

  • was that you pitching back in the day? i didnt want to say this but does anybody notice how the wind is blowing out 60 miles an hour? hhhmmmmm.... just sayin.

  • i can throw about 150 to 250 with my right arm whats my max?

  • im only at 190 ft with my left arm

  • I think one of the misconceptions about long toss is that you can somehow extrapolate the distance thrown to show velocity achieved. It is most certainly not the case. At best, you can get a very, very rough estimate. However, you can only get that much if you are measuring distance the ball travels IN THE AIR. This video does not show that. It only identifies the final resting place, not the landing distance. I hope this helps to clarify the obvious misunderstanding here.

  • dono bout the slow mo i got no real editing software i just record and put it up....should have it wednesday or thursday
