"Don't Copy That Floppy"
SPA Propaganda 1992

Classic anti-piracy propaganda from 1992,produced by the "Software Publishers Association" (SPA) as a campaign to "educate" people on the effects of piracy. Featuring an orginal rap single written by MC Hart (and Ilene Rosenthal). Sample Lyrics:

"To do the right thing, it's really simple for you
The copyright law, it will tell you what to do
Buy one, for every computer you use
Anything else is like going to the store
Taking the disk, and walking out the door
It's called thiefin', stealin', taking what's not yours
Is that really where you want your life to go?
Think about it, I don't think so.
Don't copy! Don't copy that floppy!

  • @TJ5897 Tell that to the countless number of developers who have went bankrupt.

Not all games have a publisher. Most mobile games, for instance, don't have a publisher.

Even when they do have a publisher, they often receive bonuses depending on sales figures.

Also, think about it. The amount of money a publisher makes from a game then determines how much they can put back into investing in developers. If game sales go downhill then so will the amount able to be spent on developing games.

  • @MrDougiemo No it doesn't. Piracy does not effect how they get paid, they are paid to work on the games, not sell them.

If anything it makes it harder on them to develop DRM

  • @TJ5897 What are you talking about? Of course it affects the developers

  • close your eyes and watch the first 10 seconds

  • MC DP. Badass name.

  • his eyes are really creepy

  • Bullshit, the anti piracy ads are to help the retail. not the devs. They get paid by the store to sell copies, and the store gets paid to sell you their copies. Piracy doesn't directly hurt the devs it just hurts the distributors(and it doesn't hurt them very much) Places like Wal-Mart preach this, but then they use children for slave labor the cheap evil bastards.

  • Every program you buy is one copy for one computer... yea go screw yourself.

  • Probably just ended up stealing the game.

  • This should be a meme.
