I play blues or rock, and Ididn't like the original sound of the Peavey Windsor: too much dirty, and too little sound for clean sound. not very bass sound and too much medium.
I modified this amp for to have a good clean sound (with power!), more bass, and a overdrive less dirty (more grunch). For that I worked this:
Peavey Windsor studio 2 chanel. The sound has been optimized for Clean sound (first chanel) and overdrive (second chanel). Modification of the power supply ( most voltage in the preamp section, and add a choke on power supply). Moddification of the wiring of V1 and V2 tubes, channel selection by a push/pull potentiometer "gain" (replace the original 1MOhms gain potentiometer). In clean chanel select (pull), this potentiometer is disable, you can used the bass, medium, treble potentiometers and set the volum by the master volum only (reverb is for both chanel). For the overdrive chanel, you push the gain potentiometer and set the gain by this potentiometer, and ajust the volum by the master. The volum is(a little) more strong on the overdrive chanel: when you set the master volum over 6/12, the power tube (a 6L6WXT Sovtek on this case) begin to overdrive (preamp saturation+ power saturation).
The Peavey Windsor studio have a good sound with EL34 tube, but the cathode voltage polarisation is too much hight and the EL34 overheat. the 6L6 or KT66 tube are better, they don't overheat.
