I'm a trombone player, but I've always wanted to play English Horn...
-
I want to play one, they make such a nicer sound than an oboe, like in between an oboe and a clarinet

Wonderful job, Althea! I've always loved the English horn (maybe because I was a violist for almost two decades) and you really make it sound good! Everyone I've ever known who's played English horn to any extent always complains about how hard it is to play well and to play in tune, but your playing makes it sound like an easy instrument! Keep up the good work!

Very nice. Always thought this instrument could make some sad sounding melodies. Also romantic.

lovely timbre

Wow! Thanks for posting this video. You have a fantastic sound -- smooth& nuanced. I obtained a cor anglais just amonth ago, and now I know the sound I should start working toward (no guarantee that I will ever get there)!

The oboe is overrated. The English horn is where it's at. :)
(The heckelphone is awesome too.)
Anyway, this was very, very well-performed.
Hello, cor anglais enthusiasts! Thank you for your very appreciative comments on this video. It's a wonderful piece, isn't it?

You won't be able to get the music for free, unless your high school is happy to pay, but you can purchase it online from June Emerson Wind Music in the UK. Also, T.W. Howarth may have it in stock. Both shops can send the music to you in the States. You can search online to find their websites. The oboe d'amore is in the key of A, by the way. All the best!

I'm not quite sure what Handel has to do with this piece by Reicha...! Anyway, thanks for the kind remarks about my playing, but we work out our interpretations together. It's necessary to have a good strong start to an accompaniment which was originally written for orchestra in a dramatic, operatic style.
