This is a clip from RIK news 23/01/09 that includes the interview on Turkish television with actor Attila Olgac in which he admits that during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 he cold-bloodedly murdered 10 Greek Cypriot prisoners. Later, in the RIK news clip Olgac retracts his confession.

Below is the English transcript of Olgac's confession on Turkish Star TV:

OLGAC: They said to me 'take this Thomson [gun]; you think people only get killed on the stage? Go and kill in real life'. This is such a terrible thing. For a certain period, you live with the shock. You can't grasp if it's reality, or a game, but when you see people die left and right, when you see the scenes you feel a terrible fear. After, you get used to it and you become a killing machine. Without thinking about it. All you do is kill.

FIRST WOMAN: Did you kill?

OLGAC: Of course. I killed 10.

FIRST WOMAN: You killed 10 people?

OLGAC: Yes. After I returned [from Cyprus], for a long time I couldn't eat meat because I continuously saw corpses, reeking corpses. In the heat, the corpses had become bloated and started to smell, because of the high temperatures. (Note: the Turkish invasion took place in July and August).

SECOND WOMAN: When you killed for the first time, what did you feel?

OLGAC: At first I cried, then I got used to it.

FIRST WOMAN: Did you come face to face with anyone [you killed]?

OLGAC: Yes. He spat in my face. His hands were tied. My commander told me 'kill him', then he left. From a distance, I pulled the trigger and I killed him. He was 19-years-old.

SECOND WOMAN: Was he armed?

OLGAC: No, his hands were tied; he was a prisoner.

SECOND WOMAN: Did you ever see him again in your dreams?

OLGAC: Yes. I'm an artist. I'm a human being.

And here's the translation of the retraction Olgac made to RIK:

'For a long time, I've been writing an anti-war screenplay. When they asked me on the live programme if I was a veteran, in my mind reality got mixed up with my screenplay. The men I was killing in my screenplay, I described as if I were killing them in real life. I wanted to shock people on the TV programme and see how they reacted to [the ideas in] my screenplay. If there'd been more time on the programme, I would have made this clear.'

  • @LinkSoul2 and you as victims? forget it you people supported it if people dont support it an organisation like that cant survive ...and you should know better. blame others for the crimes . and now blame turks for everything...we dont care if the island gets together we want it to ...its a huge hold back to our economy but your people blame others while you do not accept the EU's Kofi Annans plan...well then go to hell you are a BS victim. all you can do all day is to comment on the internet .

  • @LinkSoul2 greeks in the island supported EOKA doenst matter what you say now ...innocent turkish villagers were exterminated ...and secondly 20 000 turks were imprisoned and this is documented by english tv reporters which later taken by the greek government because they didnt want the truth to be known ...because of the law they have released the Video's couple of years ago 40 years law or something.

and you can see the turkish villagers in camps english government didnt release any comment .

  • @shadowfax1903

First of all non of what you say happened! 20.000 Turks in prison? We didnt even have prisons back then you fool. Killing of innocent Turks? Yeah some died.....BECAUSE GREEKS DIED TOO! And the coup was done by a few Greek military Xounta officers. The people of Cyprus....THE CYPRIOTS destroyed the Coup de at by themselves and RESTORED DEMOCRACY in mere MONTHS! You accusse the Cypriots? We were the freaking victims here you morons! And EOKA B was wrong! When did we dissagree?

  • @LinkSoul2 i dont see you hating the killing of innocent turks ...or i dont see you hating the 20 000 turks who have been kept in prison camps for 6 months before the invasion ....or the greeks for using a coup to take over the government and put a PRO Greek president as a puppet.

why would we hate the war that has saved the lives of thousands of turkish civilians .

you are just as ignorant as the EOKA...

    CRY NOW

  • @hoplitespao boy you people are pathetic

  • @paoceltic I know :)

I guess we are born to be enemies :P

  • @hitman00009 no, you are lying , after being negative critisized by turkish nationalist and jurnalist he was forced to say that this was a scenario of a new movie that he was gonna made. Of course no movie was ever made. Finally Turks admit their crimes

  • it is true that Atilla Olgac was a turkish soldier in cyprus. However, he was in kitchen throughout the war. There is no possibility he saw or killed other soldiers than turkish ones.

Later, then he admitted that he lied to attract attention (his words at the end of video)
