This cartoon probably isn't considered politically correct nowadays for obvious reasons. But it has some pretty good animation and visual gags. Sadly, there aren't many cartoons nowadays that have this much effort or quality into them.

I wish this big strong hillbilly girl had put that skinny snake Olive away for good. It would have taken about 10 seconds more of her attention to put her away for good. Even Popeye knew he could not handle this powerhouse of a woman w/out spinach.

@lispectorando They didn't show gay activities in those days on cartoons. Why did you think she picked up Popeye and tried to kiss him? The sound is a big part of this cartoon. Many say the voice is a young Carol Burnett who was doing cartoons about this time. Sounds like it could be her. Good voice for the bog strong hillbilly..and Olive too.

That's a woman?? I watched it without sound and I was enjoying the fact that Olive was being very heroic and saving Popeye from that abusive, crazy guy! I thought it looked very feminist, but I guess now it makes sense - the only situation where a woman is allowed to be brave and stand up for herself is when she is "fighting for her man" and emphasizing the notion that she could only have value if a man wants her.

Ahh even though the old cartoons aren't as serious or hyped up as modern cartoons are they do have a relaxing,easy going, average day vibe to them. I had only finished gurren lagann recently and it was intense, but after that this is a good way to relax from those hyped up thoughts.

I love how Possum treats Olive like she's a flea she can swat away or kill at will. They should have used Possum in other episodes, though she was so much stronger than Olive that I'm not sure what else she could have done to her without killing her. She was stronger than Bluto and Olive is a skinny wimp. Complete mismatch.
