Neither GDI nor Nod run these countries. These borders mark where they have military dominance. And anyone who thinks Nod dominated countries have been "pushed over" should remember that the Brotherhood is a popular political and economic power in the eyes of many.

@Genesivare Remember, it's Nod, not NOD.

RA1 soviet ending leads to TD? The whole Europe is under Soviet control (which is kinda ruled by NOD*) and in 40 years US didn't do anything? Soviets have like 40 years for upgrading armory (if they don't implode economically) and suddenly GDI takes over the whole Russia, Scandinavia and Known Europe (ES-GB-IT-FR-BG-NL-DE)? And what the hell was NOD thinking taking over countries that are in one line north? *Why they don't rule Ukraine or Bulgaria? Both are so close from Sarajevo/Moscow.

NOD never set food in Belgium?? A full scale European war and Belgium isn't on the front?? We always get conquered, always!!

And, in Tiberian Dawn... well, NOD might have attacked us (our army isn't powerful), but I don't believe we would be blackmailed or beaten so easily. Even in september 1939 we fought against Germany and Russia to the last drop of blood, although we had no chances to win.
So, that's the only thing for which I'm a bit annoyed at Westwood - that they like to place us with the bad guys. Well, at least I know, that there would be nothing to conquer, if there wouldn't be so many 'bad' countries.
