At the base of India's Meghalaya Plateau, the local tribes have created bridges across the area's rivers using living tree roots and branches. These bridges last for hundreds of years (the lifetime of the tree). For more, check out my post on these unique bridges: http://thevelvetrocket.com/2010/11/14/the-living-bridges-of-meghalaya/

  • This is mind-boggling.... what an innovative, creative and healthy mind those people have! I never saw anything like that and 'only' found this video (and a wonderful descriptive page on your blog, which I read with mounting amazement!) after having watched a French architect's explanations on a new(er) Paris bridge.... the wonders of internet!!!

Thank you; this is truly mind blowing and totally amazing!

  • This video is an inspiration, it reminded me of the concept used in the AVATAR movie, Wise people respecting life and working in a symbiotic relationship with Mother Nature.

  • If only we worked with the world in this manner still solve our problems instead of steam rolling it we would have a much more sustainable and balanced world.
