Classic Game Room HD reviews LIFE FORCE for the Nintendo Entertainment System NES video game console! This Konami released SHMUP hit NES consoles in 1988. A revamped version of Salamander (as it was named in Japan), Life Force features exciting horizontal and vertical scrolling shoot em' up space ship madness. Similar to Gradius (very, very similar), Life Force has weapon upgrades, shields, lasers and missiles the glide along the ground and wipe out waves of alien, enemy invaders invading something... or are you invading their homeworld? Who cares. Things explode and you have fun. LIFEFORCE is a great example of an old school arcade style game that was awesome in 1988 and remains awesome in 2008. Cheap to buy, easy to find and loads of fun, Life Force is a must have for retro gamers today. That stage reminds me of Gradius 2. I've seen that when I was playing that. Okay maybe it's just a copycat Konami made even Gradius is close to the same game.

The whole gradius series had a huge problem. Every time you die, you lose so much that you may as well just hit the reset button. You lose all your speedups and powerups, which in mid-stage makes it virtually impossible to heave your slow-ass ship around, dodging every projectile and enemy while having to go into the line of fire to kill these enemies, while simultaneously lugging your slow ass over to the powerups to get them. So basically, you either beat the game on one life or you're fucked.

i love how i cant just find the damned thing, everyone has to put their pet favorite "console" into it. when i was actually playing this on an actual arcade videogame, do you think i cared what manufacturer created the box that housed it?

the game itself existed before nintendo did.
