The mission of the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra is to bring the power and pleasure of live orchestra concerts performed by professional musicians to the Twin Cities community, free of charge. Each year 25,000 to 30,000 concertgoers enjoy our beautiful music in glorious open-air public venues.

The Minneapolis Pops Orchestra is a 45-member ensemble comprised of some of the finest professional musicians in the area. Most Pops Orchestra musicians perform with the Minnesota Opera Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and other distinguished Twin Cities musical groups during the winter months.

Programs include a mix of light classics, movie music, popular songs, marches, Strauss waltzes, and Broadway medleys. In the summer of 2011 we will feature accordion virtuoso Mark Stillman, the Gilbert and Sullivan Very Light Opera Company performing H.M.S. Pinafore, and many other fine musical treats. Performances are free and open to all.

Orchestra leadership is provided by Music Director Jere Lantz who has a distinguished national reputation as both an orchestral and choral conductor. Maestro Lantz serves as conductor and host for MPO concerts and is well known for his ability to communicate the 'story behind the music.' 2010 will mark Maestro Lantz' twenty-fifth season with the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra.
