UPDATE Oct. 4, 2011
This method currently only works for Froyo 2.2.2. To root Gingerbread 2.3.3 you will need to first install ClockworkMod Recovery if you don't have it already, then flash the rooted version of the Gingerbread ROM. The instructions are near the top of this thread:

----------

Here is a quick demonstration of how to acquire root access to the T-Mobile G2x (same as LG Optimus 2x) running Froyo 2.2.2

1) Download SuperOneClick 1.9.1 or later
2) On your phone go to Settings}Applications}Allow USB Debugging (check thison)
3) Plug the phone into the computer
4) DO NOT mount the SD card
5) Run SuperOneClick (right click to run as administrator in win7 & vista)
6) Click 'Root'
7) Install BusyBox if asked
8) Go ahead and run the test
9) Be sure to reboot the phone before using
10) Enjoy!

That link will also help with some troubleshooting.

  • Hey! Can you make a video on how to install CM7.1 stable now that it's out? I JUST got a G2X (Froyo) last week and I want to install CM7.1 so I can get better battery life!

Please? People have been sending me to XDA but I want a video tutorial, so can you please make one? If not, then I guess I'll have to follow your "nightly" tutorial.

  • @sk8rked The process should be EXACTLY the same as the nightly video (assuming you download the stable ROM of course, and not a nightly). I am not sure if it includes the Google Apps though. If not, check out my video tutorial for installing them as well. Let me know if you have an issue. Good luck!

  • Does it work with gingerbread??

  • @rosh543 Not exactly. I updated the video description above for Gingerbread root instructions.

  • What rom do u currently use?

  • @gamerdragon89 I am currently running EaglesBlood 2.2.2 Froyo.

  • It says *daemon not running. Starting it now on port 5037* the hell's that?

  • This is a nub Question. But my LG 2X won't Mount WTF. What is the problem?

  • really starting to piss me off i have done everything and still freezes after daemon started succesfully

  • @KlAyst3R Hi hopefully you´ve already got an answer, but here is a solution that worked for me. I had the same problem, superoneclick freezed after the first two steps. I went to lg´s homepage, and downloaded a new software update. Rebooted the phone, connected it to the pc, made sure USB-debugging was on, and i made sure i didn´t mount the sd card. Opened superoneclick (2.3.3) and pressed root. hope this have helped! AND PLEASE THUMB´S UP SO EVERYONE SEES THIS! peace/ Ralle624 :)

  • @KlAyst3R I have the same problem.
