Hi Guys, thanks for your comments, its nice to see my old game here, I haven't seen this one in many years.
I converted it from the arcade for Atarisoft, who eventually decided not to release software for other computer systems, so it went unpublished. A year later Ocean asked me if I had any unpublished games. This was the only one, but amazingly they had just signed a deal to publish "Crystal Castles" for the C64 on their US Gold label, so it found a home.

what are the controls on this one ? I have got z for left, x for4 right, & enter for jump .. but I cannot figure out up & down. HELP !!!!

I loved this game. Beat it once and you replay it again at twice the speed. Beat it again on that, and replay it at 4 times speed!

The Arcade would draw the levels similiar as well, but would do it at a way faster clip so you wouldn't be waiting on it as you do on the Beeb. However, if the music was more correct at the end of the level, I give this an A-, without it, B for this port (missing level jump (technology can excuse that one), but no music fanfare at the beginning of level and the correct sting at end of level keep it from being flawless :)

GET THE GEMS, BENTLY BEAR!
...
Bently?
Bently?!
OH GOD HE'S EATING MY LEG!

Sometimes the Beeb was mocked for it's not as sharp graphics (though that was often just to sloppy programme more than capabilities), but things like this show that it could do some good stuff for it's time. I used to like this game; I remember I had it on a compilation disk that some loaned (ahem) me, I got through a few levels but then it would always corrupt.

Ah, that explains it... probs the same routines that Basic would use then? In that case they look quite fast for plots, Draws and Fills if you can use them :) keep meaning to check out BBC Basic (especially as it`s now been ported to Spectrum :D )
Graphically, that`s one of the nicer home versions of the game I`ve seen, sound wise too it`s quite close to the arcade from what I remember... it`s funny but it takes an age to draw the screen and then you`ve got this lightning fast (perhaps too fast) version... looks way hard :)

The drawing of the level is done using the OS routines (which are pretty slow), but a side effect of this is you can see the otherwise hidden parts of the level!
