We purchased two food grade barrels to convert to rain barrels. We found them at http://www.kijiji.ca and we paid $40 for both of them.

  • Great video, although if I may suggest, also check with local industrial companies for barrels, you do have to be carefull of course as to what was in them, some can be washed with high pressure and heat, a car wash if you don;t have access to a heated pressure washer. Then wash with dish deturgent. I have done this and had no ill affect on my plants. I have never paid more than $15 for a barrell, for example the local meat packing plant sells used barrels for that price.

  • Our local youtube friend (MrGreenBuddha) just got two barrels for $10 each. Not bad.

  • I found a huge steel paper cutter on there....and I brought it home in my hatch back.....cost me like 50 bucks in gas lol! "They" are predicting a hot and dry summer by the way...so I need to get more barrels too!

  • I also heard "they" are predicting a hot and dry summer. Considering last summer was so nice and cool, I guess we deserve a hot one this year. ~Amanda

  • Good stuff guys!!!! Check out my rain barrel video if you find time..

  • We just purchased our rain barrel last month. We were able to find a supplier that sells the ones similar to yours (only solid blue) and the same color ones with a removable lid and band. The ones with removable lid, he sells for $20 and we got the other one (like yours) for $15. I was telling him what I was doing with it and he cut holes for me and added a piece to attach the spout to for and extra $5. I'm planning on getting more and will do a video on it later in the spring.

  • One more note of which you may already be aware but maybe your veiwers may not, is that due to your barrels being white your should prime and paint them if they will be in the sun, because white plastic breaks down in UV rays, and of course empty them before freeze up, I have had 2 of them break because I didn't.

I hope this helps, these I say due to my own trial and errors.

Great work I hope my suggestions may help someone!

    Keep the videos rolling!!!

  • yeah maybe I'll get some decent peppers this year ;)
