Three Mattoon teenagers are in trouble with the law after making a fake Myspace page It started out as a prank. The teens logged on to Myspace to vent about a teacher. "They didn't particularly like this teacher," said Deputy Jeromy Clark. A mean motive was all it took to get the site rolling and they soon created a page under their teacher's name. "There was a photo of the actual person but other than that nothing was real," said Clark. The students used a camera phone in class and clicked their teacher's picture. Then derogatory statements were made on the pretend page. When the teacher saw the fake site he called Myspace and the page was destroyed and the police were called in. The teens now face big fines and community service. Police hope it sends a message. "Hopefully this will show all the kids among the area that they can't be doing this," said Clark.

Police say because the teens hadn't been in trouble before they were only cited in the city which means this won't go on their permenant record. The school says they do have strict rules and students aren't allowed on Myspace of Facebook while on school grounds.. but it's hard to enforce.

  • what kind of charges did these children face? how did the teacher know it was these kids? it is freedom of speech, but its within reason if its too deragatory then yes the person can say their career is destroyed, but the internet is so big so many fake pages could be made out there about anyone and who really knows if the person will find it.

  • @prettylyricsmarie These kids got charged for Disorderly Conduct... They got tracked down by their IP address, that's how they know who it was.

  • I agree if is America and that us in the constitution

  • The man below me calling himself "fumetti" is really Michael the Rochester Guy aka Michael Meggison from myspace. He is cyber stalking Sean Percival and has a long history of stalking many people on the internet. He is a danger and a menace to society and should be reported to the cyber crimes unit. He also has a long history of being fired from jobs for threatening other co workers. His mental illness should be taken seriously.

  • are they bigtime homos like MySpace director of social content Sean Percival?
