We are actually in this situation due to the policies of Margaret Thatcher which still screw this country up today. She added 1.5m to the uneployment line which no-one has taken off. The increase in prices for gas, water and electrity has taken money out of peoples wallets which give them less to spend. The bottom line is this we need to bring Socialism back.

@kushasaures America isn't capitalist, capitalism isn't a defined economic system, it's a loose term used to describe virtually any system where groups or individuals own the means of production of goods. So by that definition communist China is a capitalist country.

America is a tax based, tightly controlled & regulated society which has many socialist elements combined with limited & taxed ability to own produce & trade capital.

True capitalism would not allow for forced taxation

If the economy grows, people invest money in it to have a safe return because of that economy's strength. Why do you think credit ratings are so important to investors? And why do you think people still put money into the USA because it's the largest (and therefore, safest) economy in the world.

@billytsoul1 Economically what Billy's saying is true. WIthout wanting to be too technical, there's an economic formula associated with growth or "demand" in an economy. Investment plays a large part in that formula but by far the largest section is public consumption. Put simply; people have money, people buy goods. You may misunderstand what he's saying in terms of reforming investment, but in terms of economics what he's saying makes perfect sense. People spending would bail us out.
