http://www.emmytvlegends.org/interviews/people/walter-cronkite In this excerpt, Cronkite discusses how the News handled polling in the 1952 Presidential Election.
Walter Cronkite was interviewed for four-and-a-half hours (in two sessions) in New York, NY. Mr. Cronkite described his early journalism days as a print reporter for United Press, anchoring the first televised political conventions, hosting the show You Are There, and how he became managing editor and anchor of the CBS Evening News for 20 years. He gave the Archive a fascinating perspective on how the television press covered some of the 20th Century's most important news events including: Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, John F. Kennedy's assassination, the Vietnam War, and the first moon landing, among many others. Part 1 of this two-part interview was conducted by Don Carleton on April 28, 1998.

You are a lucky person!

Walter made these remarks in 1998. The 2000 election proved that the media's scientific methods at determining the outcome of an election were not as accurate as he thought.

I actually know Mr.Cronkite (I refer to him that way as to not mix him up with his grandson who I really like) and it's always fun to see him watch the evning news cast. He can get rather frustrated with it. sometimes yelling, "that's not news!" or something to that ilk.

Walter, please, please keep speaking for as long as we have you. And get taped. Do this for the centuries to come. You are a great orator, of great value to the present, of great value to the past, and great value to future times.
