President Obama has done it again re-affirming his unyielding commitment to an open Internet. It happened this time during an announcement on Friday of a new initiative to beef up the nation's defenses against cyber-attacks.

The Web-savvy commander-in-chief said he planned to select a new cyber-czar for the job, but also pledged not to trample on the civil liberties of Net users.

Let me also be clear about what we will not do, the president said during the announcement. Our pursuit of cyber security will not -- I repeat, will not include -- monitoring private sector networks or Internet traffic. We will preserve and protect the personal privacy and civil liberties that we cherish as Americans. Indeed, I remain firmly committed to Net Neutrality so we can keep the Internet as it should be -- open and free.

Its not the first time that Obama signaled his support for Net Neutrality. In February, the president signed the economic stimulus bill that included $7.2 billion to get fast and open Internet to the nearly half of American homes that dont have it. Net Neutrality was written into the DNA of the broadband stimulus.

While on the campaign trail, Obama pledged to take a back seat to no one in his commitment to Net Neutrality. And the administrations technology policies posted on the White House Web site list Net Neutrality as the top priority.

Obamas pick to head the FCC, Julius Genachowski, was one of the principal architects of the presidents pro-Net Neutrality platform. Expect Genachowskis nomination to go before the Senate in the coming weeks.

  • @jsjs525 Well that could wor, however, I am not an american citizen, nor am I of legal age to run for congress.

  • @Darian9999

Well not if the people can stop him... there are a few ways to go about doing that... the surest and quickest way, if the controversy over the birth certificate is true, then everything he's signed and done as president can be completely reversed, that includes taking us to war with Libya, etc. or to spread the word to those you know and don't know, and help get information out there for what they are doing, as well as talking to your congressmen/women....Or run for that position.

  • @jsjs525 So the internet pretty much over. Wow Obama is a lying peice of crap. I really wish someone important would call him on it, but we all know that would never happen.

  • @Darian9999

Maybe I wrote it wrong allowing it to be misunderstood, it still hasn't gone through Congress as of yet, it has passed the House and is currently placed on the Senate Calendar.... What I had meant by what I wrote was that all the elements involved to allow it to be implemented nationwide are currently in place all they have to do is pass the bill and then we face losing the current internet, and this would also allow them to implement their plans for Internet 2, a controlled system.

  • @jsjs525 Yep, however I wasn't aware that the motion for the 'kill-switch' went through...

  • @Darian9999

Are you talking to me or everyone else man.... Because it's hard to tell by your words... the kill-switch for the internet which is already in place would allow the current or following president to pull the plug on all the ISP's in the country preventing the masses from communicating through the internet medium. This 'net neutrality' is the floating excuse used to support the need for the kill-switch

  • @jsjs525 You all know what the kill switch for the internet is for right? Look what happened in Egypt, if they had internet kill switch there would not of been a revolution. Just saying.

  • QUESTION: Why don't presidents just reject bills with extreme porkbarreling on them and then just make some sort of announcement about it later? Citizens don't know about the tiny parts of the bill senators add on for their state to get elected again, thus making them more money. THEN the people get information that the president rejected a bill when really he was rejecting the porkbarrel. What we need in 2012 is another Kennedy, Reagan, or Roosevelt.

  • The ruling last month proved more lies!

  • More lies!
