To my Subscribers and Friends: Please bear with me as I re-edit about 40 videos that may ultimately have been in danger due to "Matched Third Party Content" status. Please listen to this message and learn from my experience. Don't let this happen to you.

  • I hope 1 day youtube will change the rules.....

  • Hello RandomKidl94! :)

I'm currently re-editing the sound tracks to several videos and uploading them again. Unfortunately, this is a very time consuming process in terms of having to listen to a lot of music at royalty free music websites. I've found one that has a great selection of tunes to choose from, but purchasing individual songs gets to be very expensive. The upshot is that I don't make a dime on my videos. No profit here. It's just about expression for me.

  • Carmen:

All your videos that were my favorites are gone :(

So sorry for your experience and frustration. I don't quite understand the third party content; does that mean the only music that you can officially utilize is music in the public domain? Hope that this doesn't cause you to stop making videos.

  • Hi nateandkatesmom. :)

Thank you for your supportive words. I will continue making videos, but I will have to be extremely careful about the music I use in the background. I rely heavily on music to set, reflect and enhance the moods of my videos, so this is going to be very tricky. Yes, music in the public domain and music from my Macintosh should be safe, but needless to say, those choices may be very limiting. I'm going to explore them when I have time to focus on re-editing my videos.

  • I am really sorry for your experience. Thank you for posting this and I will learn from this post.

  • Hi GadgetTrish. :)

Thank you for your words of support, and yes, please learn from this experience so you don't have to go through the incredible amount of work involved in re-editing many videos. What's interesting is that if you type in the name of any major singer or music group, you'll find fan-made videos featuring their music. It's only a matter of time before all those videos disappear from YouTube. We'll only have the official versions released by the record companies themselves. :(

  • You could dispute the copyright claim on your videos ahead of time siting the fair use act but you take full responsibility should the owner decide to sue for infringement later there is an option to dispute when third party content is matched under the video in question there are some good videos posted to YouTube on how to use the copyright dispute option also some good videos on the fair use act to give you an idea of what might be safe under fair use. Good luck with future videos :)

  • As far as warning you before excepting money for promo they could but they would rather have your money & would simply say you should have read terms of service before promoting it. Sorry about your videos :(

  • If the lyrics/music you use represent something other than what the original artist was trying represent & you only have a portion of it so know one could use your video to hear the full song rather than purchase it from the original owner your probably safe under the fair use act unfortunately the owner can sue for infringement at any time & fair use can only be determined by a judge as the law is vague so they remove upon request of owner they warn this may happen in T.O.S.

  • I wish youtube would be normal again.. :((

  • Hello Elliecute8. :)

It's extremely frustrating, and it's going to be very time consuming to add new sound tracks to those videos using quality music that can't be considered a copyright issue. The problem with videos that have been labeled with the "Matched Third Party Content" message is that YouTube may, at any time, yank those videos due to the music copyright owners preferences or changing policies. YouTube needs to implement a better warning system and apply the rules to everyone.

  • i have 2 flagged videos, 1 from 2007 and 1 from 2009 and i'm worried that a video of mine will get flagged again my youtube account will be gone, and i've had this channel for a long time. so i've been in the process of delete some of my unreplaceable video's but i mean.. it's so unfair of youtube.
