I'm totally trying that chocolate cicada snack this weekend. were they good? I'm excited.

They were actually, but not a strong flavour, slightly nutty. They could easily pass off for choc coated nuts if you dont tell. I served them a few hours later and fooled a few (I told them after, lol)

Actually I did eat them (first part of video) and I also ate the chocolates ones - as well as many unsuspecting friends :-)

I know Sarah posted a year ago, but for those who might think the same thing: cicada eggs hatch high up in the trees, the insects then fall to the ground, burrow into the soil & feed on tree sap for SEVENTEEN years! Then they emerge to eat (vegetation) & mate, then die. Their "waste" as Sarah put it, is hardly dangerous. The insects themselves are high protein, low fat and are eaten world wide, incl. the USA.

Cicadas are amazing dipped in chocolate fondue... this video is good because it shows what my neighbors forgot to do (and therefore they didn't like them) - cut off the wings. We cut off the legs too. They taste like almonds.
