Check out The Mountain Goats: No Children, This Year, Heretic Pride, and Dance Music.

A, because they are fucking SWEEEET tunes, and B, because the Mountain Goats wrote the book on Depressing lyrics/upbeat melodies.

One of their happiest albums, The Sunset Tree, is all about the lead singer's abusive father. Yeah, it's kind of a mindfuck : )
