What happens when Grandma overfeeds a dog - Cute or Ugly?

Have you got a Grandma that loves to feed you? Maybe she even gets upset when you don't want a fourth helping? Well, this is what happens when she gets a dog!

Sweety is a Pomeranian. According to AKC standards they run from 3 to 7 pounds. I didn't weigh her, but Sweety must be at least 25 or 30 pounds!

They also usually have a long, thick coat. She had some flea problems so she got shaved.

A 30 pound pomeranian that's been shaved? How could I not get out the camcorder!?

Well one problem is the food she is eating. Look at the ingredients and you'll see that the second ingredient is high fructose corn syrup. This poor dog needs a better diet and exercise.

The food she is eating? Do you mean the biscuits and gravy or the strawberry ice cream? :) She is actually much better now, doesn't get table food anymore, and she is under 10 pounds again.

Just an update ... Sweety is slowly but surely losing weight. Grandma really loves her and has to try really hard to resist feeding her whatever she wants, but she is coming around.

Not cute at all. Your pom is unhealthy and sick. You mustn't feed your pomeranian more food than is necessary no matter how tempting it is when they look at you with those sweet little eyes and cute smile. Poms are notorious beggars. It should also be mostly dry food as they are prone to dental problems. Congrats on the weight loss though. Good to know he is back to less than 10 lbs again. Best of luck to both Grandma and Pom.

Wow, this is really poor dog ownership. Why would you shave a dog because of flea problems? Try some advantix, kills basically all the fleas in a few hours. And it's not cute to intentionally make your dog obese.

She looks like my first pom, but my first pom's fur started falling out when his thyroid messed up, He had to take thyroid medication. The vet said if he was human, he would have been dead.

He went missing in 2 days before Christmas Last year. I think my uncle came and got him out of the fence and took him to be laid to rest.

I got a new pom in Jan 2009 from the humane society though.
