Lawmakers in both houses of Congress were sworn in Tuesday (January 6th) amid controversy over two seats in the Senate. Roland Burris, appointed to the Illinois seat vacated by President-Elect Barack Obama, was turned away. And although a Senate seat from the state of Minnesota went to the Democratic candidate in a recount, the Republican incumbent vowed a court fight. The failing U.S. economy is expected to take center stage this week as the 111th U.S. Congress begins its work in Washington. VOA's Robert Raffaele has the story.
I don't understand the controversy. So Burris's documents don't have the appropriate seals and verification? So what, neither does Obama's documents!? Yet nobody is questioning if Obama, now using the nomiker Barack Hussein Obama, is legally able to take the Presidency. Why pick on Burris when he has a lot more legitimacy than Soetoro (he was appointed by a sitting governor per the law and never had other names, foreign residency, foreign adoptions, travels to banned countries, etc).
