Built specifically to support a global demonstration program that begins this month, the Prius PHV is based on the third-generation Prius. The vehicle expands Toyotas Hybrid Synergy Drive technology with the introduction of a first generation lithium-ion battery that enables all-electric operation at higher speeds and longer distances than the conventional Prius hybrid. When fully charged, the vehicle is targeted to achieve a maximum electric-only range of approximately 13 miles and will be capable of achieving highway speeds up to 60 mph in electric-only mode. For longer distances, the Prius PHV reverts to hybrid mode and operates like a regular Prius. This ability to utilize all-electric power for short trips or hybrid power for longer drives alleviates the issue of limited cruising range encountered with pure electric vehicles.

  • @cdltpx You have got to keep the car to get it to pay off in order to keep a car you have got to maintain it properly this requires a little notebook to keep track of what you do. I change the oil myself reason is I know it was done properly if I do it. I have heard of places that change the oil but not the filter this is true so make sure they do their job it is your responsibility to keep them honest. A 70769 man sold his 05 for $5.5K it had 300K miles he bought another prius he made $.

  • @christianpetty I understand the hybrid is good but plug in hybrid would be great if they would build a diesel plug in hybrid car that had heated tank so we could use all veggie oil for when we had to run the engine. I want to fire the oil companies I never want this country to go to war for oil again. If we can take care of our energy needs using the sun that is the thing to do. If I could grow or make my own fuel that is what I want to do. The plug ins are too expensive but then they are not?

  • @christianpetty Plug in will go 15 miles per charge. Work is 15 miles round trip this means we do those miles all electric we pay $3 for gas, electric will cost around $1per 50 miles rather than $3 for 50 miles. We can install grid tie solar panels to cover for our electricity usage the car will consume that grid tie system has a pay off around 7 years meaning it will give us 25 years free power. Get enough people to do this and we retire a super tanker. Main reason to do this is to save money.

  • why wud u want plug in ? original hybrid works fine.

  • i better buy this or ill get stabbed by sephiroth

  • @melovetorun 2, people need to not only hurt the environment less but contribute to the environment a lot more, because if we're just hurting less and taking less then we're not solving the problem we're just slowing it down and our growing population probably completely offsets those efforts, the best option is to continue to pollute less but contribute way more and teach people what is actually good for and helps the environment

  • @melovetorun well pretty much everybody today recycles, i also have to pic up other people's trash because they trespass on my families property and liter, and i don't call hybrid drivers names neither do i have a problem with all of them, if you drive a hybrid to save gas thats fine and completely understandable, i only have a problem with the ones who think they are actually helping the environment, because its not "helping" its just hurting it and little bit less per mile

  • @HiMinds I recycle, clean up litter from other people and support ideas for Electric Cars. I have also planted plants before. Not much but it's a start. I don't bash hybrid drivers or call them tree hugging fags. I suport them.

  • @melovetorun wow there no they absolutely do not, in what way?? I'v been planting trees since before i had a license, i'v planted literally hundreds of trees to try and reforest what used to be native rainforest in hawaii, what do you do for the environment?? please i'd love to know

  • @HiMinds Hybrids drivers do more than you.
