Clad in simple khadi kurta payjama with an ordinary canvas bag on the shoulders, Chandra Bhushan Tiwari does not sport an extraordinary personality. At a glance, he would not attract urban society but a closer look and a few words will sweep away the fog of oblivion. A trained teacher, an 'Acharya' in Sanskrit and now a nationally acclaimed social worker, Tiwari was appointed in one of the branches of Central School in Orrisa in 1993. One day he thought that who will teach the children who are not able to join any school for some reason or the other. This thought was enough to fan the fire in his heart and mind. He resigned from his job, returned back to Lucknow and started teaching kids of daily wage labours, vegetable vendors, maid servants, rickshaw puller and alike. Further, he noticed that these children come to school empty stomach and hardly get any eatables on their return to home as their parents come very late. He decided to offer some nutritious diet such as sprouted grains to all the students coming to his school Vivekanand Bal Vidyamandir situated in EWS houses at Sec M-1 Ashiyana, Lucknow. It was not an easy commitment to keep up but Tiwari's credentials were honoured by hundreds of benevolent in the city by contributing in some way or the other. Dozens of people started offering money on occasions of their children's birthday and alike.
Tiwari has also taken up plantation as the mission of life. Till date he has planted more than a lakh plants in the city and is constantly pursuing his endeavor with people's participation. He would persuade people to plant vegetables in whatever space available in houses even in mud pots besides regular plantation. Discovery channel has made a documentary film on his extraordinary contribution to enrich environment.
Tiwari sees a brighter tomorrow with the emancipation of unprivileged class and committed plantation. He commands the supports from a cross section of society hailing from all professions, religion and beliefs. He calls for contributing old used clothes, grains, financial support for running of his two schools and activities there in.
