nah - we need to lead the way in clean tech and innovative technologies, if we stop basing our economies on growth, other economies that do will, well, outgrow us. Then we won't be so much a light for the world to follow as an unimportant economic backwater.
When the world stops growing exponentially it will be because of natural reduced birth rate (which seems to happen on its own) or because some awful crisis forces global co-operation, or because of an apocalyptic war, but I hope not.

Energy technology is going to change in a big way very soon, we're going to run out of oil so we'll swap to renewables and nuclear. It isn't going to be as bad as all that, technology got us into this mess, it will take us deeper into it for a little while longer, then it will get us out.

That wont do anything, the countries who pollute the most for the most part are westernized countries like the US whose birth rate is something like 2.3 babies per family. African countries whose families are like 8 each pollute the least amount but as soon as the third world, like China has and India is coming to the forefront of the world, we are screwed. 300 million Americans probably pollute as much as 4 billion people in the third world.

Since when does a call to focus on the long term growth of our species and cutting back on the unnecessary luxuries (that negatively impact others) count as genocide? Population control doesn’t mean “Lets go kill every second child” its about educating the population, providing comprehensive sex ed, providing social and financial support for poorer populations. Perhaps placing a cap on the amount of children you have (which doesn’t have to be a result of violence).

Look up some videos on the Gaia Hypothesis (also known as Gaia theory or Gaia principle) it’s only a hypothesis, but is quite interesting

“true democracy” has its issues as well. It is not efficient and relies on multitudes of individuals who don’t necessarily have the expertise and insight to make the best choices. Furthermore, they are susceptible to making decisions that places value short term gains for long term sustainability. This is a trait that serves us well in the past, but is threatening our future as a species. Democracy has a place, but it might not be the solution to the issues we face in the Anthropocene.
