Every now and then a fat chub shoal move in on the River Hodder. Many fly anglers used to decry the chub yet the take from a large specimen on light gear and small dry fly can be spectacular. Apologies for the confusion in the middle of this clip but I had the fly rod in one hand and the camera in the other and I had to also net the fish too, so the camera had to swing in its strap whilst I grassed the fish. This chub took a tiny pale watery imitation. I saw the fish cast to it and it turned a tight semi circle then hit the fly. There is nothing wrong with catching chub on fly and its great fun. Mr Crabtree would have approved for sure.

  • Nice one mate!!! Just gotta love Chub. Strong and quite big fishes. Huge fun to have :)

  • Nice chub! :D

In my country favourite flies for chub are bugs usualy made from foam or balsa wood but sometimes from cork. You should present your bug with big splash, but you should be carefull not to do that to near to fish, because chub will ran off like rocket :(

  • dont move the camera so much
