First song I thought of when I heard the news of Charlie Louvin's passing.

Note: This is not the Eric Clapton song!!!

My version of "No Tears In Heaven" is adapted from autoharp master Kilby Snow's (1905-1980) version which appears on the 1962 recording, "Country Songs and Tunes with Autoharp" available from Smi Folkways @ http://www.folkways.si.edu/TrackDetails.aspx?itemid=9733

Lyrics:

No tears in heaven, no sorrows given.
All will be glory in that land;
There'll be no sadness, all will be gladness,
When we reach that happy land

Glory is waiting, waiting up yonder,
Where we shall spend an endless day;
There with our Savior, we'll be forever,
Where no more sorrow can dismay.

No tears in heaven fair
No tears, no tears up there,
Sorrow and pain will all have flown;
No tears in heaven fair
No tears, no tears up there;
No tears in heaven will be known.

Some morning yonder, we'll cease to ponder
Over things this life has brought to view;
All will be clearer, loved ones be dearer
In heav'n where all will be made new.

No tears in heaven fair
No tears, no tears up there,
Sorrow and pain will all have flown;
No tears in heaven fair
No tears, no tears up there;
No tears in heaven will be known.

  • Again a great recording, Tom. Very well done!

    PS. Did you ever got my e-mail?

  • don't recall any email?

  • It's funny, I really like and seem to prefer your "Van sessions" better than I do some of your album recordings. You seem to play a little quicker ( which I like) and less reserved. So it was a little bit of a disappointment for me when I listened to some of the songs on the Tribute album. I guess I just got so use to hearing them the way you played them in your van. Anyways, loved and enjoyed this song you played. I'm a Big fan, so as long as you keep playing I'll keep listening.

    P.S. Hope

  • i do play faster in real life. with the recordings, due to the band, everything is set to a click track so we can overdub if need be. it does create a bit of "stiffness" but saves in time/studio costs. Mostly, live isn't as concerning as recording. Also, you have to think of recordings as moments in time. That's how I played those songs at that time, in that moment. Recordings are simply a snapshot. Cool you like the van tunes!

  • A very nice tribute to one of the greats of country and country gospel!

  • @tomfeldmannmusic I just sent you a pm about this e-mail.

  • very nice tribute

  • Tom, Thanks for honoring Charlie. I have always loved this great song by Texas writer, Robert S. Arnold. I had the privilege of meeting him, & hearing him sing this song in person, back in the 1980's. he was at the Albert E. Brumley, All Night Sing, in Springdale, Ark. He was a real class act... a great gentleman. Love your music. :-)
