Hello Sir i got a PICSTART Plus not found. Please verify serial connection and try the current operation again. A serial time out has occored. Please verify your serial connection and try again. I am using a converter from USB to serial driver installation ok. The COM is 3 and the i use a PIC16F870 The other ports 1,2 and 4 could not be opened. I know for sure its the COM3 i use tha same port to map a MegaSquirt MS1 ECU. If you have any idea please let me know. Best regards.

Get a programmer and probably best starting on the PIC 16F84a or maybe even pic16f876a
Download MPLAB of course.
I bought a nice programmer (usb and serial) from hong kong for $40 . You can make your own programmer by looking around online for the schematics if you need to (they are not difficult to make)

hey, i wanted to see if i could get in to pic programming, but i have no idea what to start with. what would you reccomend? i wanted to be able to program a chip to give certain outputs etc and be able to transfer the code from the computer maybe using a GUI or text coding. is there a cheap little kit that will get me going? please reply :) thanks.
