This is very helpful. I'm subscribing to get some more knowledge especially since jazz is a bit of a mystery for me. Thanks a lot for these videos

Could you shed some light on why did you choose F#? That's a sharp eleven, so that makes these notes a C lydian scale so you're in G major. Thanks.

@brwnie00 The reason to choose F# and all the lydian chords is so that you end up with that nice cycle of Major Triads around the circle of 5ths in the upper structures as you ascend. Also, check out George Russell's Lydian Chromatic Concept, for a sick theory about lydian chords that I really dig....interesting stuff.

@jakehertzog Thanks, I'll google that. At first I thought it has to do something with the fact that there is a friction between the 11th note and the 3rd which is the strongest note of the chord. It's not necessarily a wise move to add tension with the 4th/11th. 11# works well, but in the end all that matters is what sound you are going for. My friend, who's a fantastic musician and plays free jazz with traditional jewish music roots said that 11 sounds great over a maj7. It depends... :D

@brwnie00 Sure! yea, you are right about that, the traditional jazz style tends to avoid rubs on the 3rds of chords, so thus the F#. In other styles of music...anything goes! Esp. eastern styles, like middle eastern and indian music;-) be well!
