According to a voice clip ten minutes into the final boss, the Shadow in Heroes and this game is the real Shadow. Robotnik rescued him.

the thing is when they try and put all the cool things in the game it causes glitches that usually end up killing you

This was one of my favorite games for the gamecube. It just felt so odd, so odd that I had to love it.

this is the real Shadow, at the end he is a bit affected by Doom's mind control, if this was an android shadow he wouldn't of been able to be affected by Doom's mind control.
