4-23-10 the asian actor debate!

why hasn't there been award recognition for acting work done by asian and asian-american actors and actresses? Sandra Oh, Zhang Ziyi, Li Gong, John Cho, Yunjin Kim, the list goes on and on! why haven't these talented actors been nominated for oscars? in the entire history of the academy awards, only 8 actors if asian descent have been nominated in acting categories!

@ballinx30 like u said the issue is racial- we can't forget this is a white country run by white people. So when they think of the all american stud to play the all american role, what pops in their head is their white view of the US. Now ur seeing black people make progress but lets not forget black people had to fight hard to get a presence. Also it's a competition of cultures-white culture wins first by default, & then the black, hispanic & asian cultures have to fight for the other positions

@Drknoble have you ever seen an asian guy on tv that was the stud or the guy who got the girl? have you ever seen an asian character who played a non goofy roll on tv for that matter? sure john cho might get a detective role here and there but outside of that? No. its 2011 asian american men need to stand the **** up and unite. white people know whats up

@Drknoble the bottom line is unless hollywood changes and media in general asians will be forever scrutinized. media has a heavy influence how all races are portrayed and thats where it stems from.

@ballinx30 Very true, racism is still a problem in America. And asian americans do need to unite a little more, african americans and hispanics have done a better job. But look on the bright side, in the last few years asian americans have started making big waves in online entertainment via youtube with people like nigahiga, kev jumba, and timothydelagheto. So progress is being made.

@Drknoble its not an issue of being the minority. its that america is still racist and thats the bottom line. unless asians stand up and fight for our rights we wont get anywhere. just like the latinos and blacks we need to unite.

Well Asians are a minority population in the US just like African Americans and hispanics. Which out of these minority groups have been here the longest = African Americans - And they've only in the last 15 years started getting recognized. So you can see how long it has taken african americans to get any recognition even though they have introduced so many forms of entertainment in america. Also Hispanics are even a large pop than blacks and they haven't even received their due.
