It's one of those songs that are so good that the Beatles wished they wrote it.

The most beautiful song of the British Invasion- many critics would agree that this was a high water mark for British pop music along with "A Day in the Life" and "A Whiter Shade of Pale". Those were great years for new music. Now the kids are into Justin Beiber and Lady GagMe. WTF happened?

You might more properly ask why Elton John started wearing Dave Davies's glasses, since this film preceded Elton John's solo career by four or five years. When this record came out, Elton John was still little Reggie Dwight, session artist and pianist for Long John Baldry, whose name he later used. The Kinks didn't follow trends, they started them.

Is that a picture of Mick Avory you are using as your Avatar? Truly a Kinks' fan.

And not just the Beatles. Ian Gilmour of Pink Floyd was interviewed on British Television and was asked if he had any regrets. He said "Yeah, I didn't write Waterloo Sunset. But I wish I had".

It was Carol & Tony who crossed over the river in 1976 - still together!
