This was a custom build for a on road racing mower. Still needs tuned as you can see. but it seems like its going to have crasy power. we have a billit rod and a lobed cam shaft. this engine also has a oil pump. enjoy!

im not a huge fan of tecumseh but this one seems like its going to be alright.

  • where did you get your cam???? help im in need

  • @dirtcrazy227 it looks like a machine shop custom made it

  • The deal with the starter- I'm having the same issue with the 10.5HP briggs that I'm putting on my Snapper RER... I'm buying a starter for an opposed twin engine to put on it. Hopefully that will crank her. Right now, to start it, I have to connect it to my car and manually turn the engine to just past compression like you are doing here.

  • @KrankieV2 deffinatly a bad starter. if you open up the starter check the commutators. taka razor blade and clean and blow out any crap between them. this starter is healthy its just because of the head bieng milled and what not

  • why are you wasting your time on that POS Tecumseh u should've used your time to make a B&S Racing Engine

  • @NZHproduction with te way we are going to ride this racer we need a disposabile engine that we can throw out and get a new one. briggs parts are expencive

  • @KrankieV2 i see. well, there must be a whole bunch of different comp. release designs then... well, thanks for the info it will come in handy( taking "marine/powersports" techinician course.)

  • (2/2) I disabled the decompression by filing the intake valve stem to the point where it was tight to the seat at the top of the compression stroke. This caused the engine to turn harder at low RPM but it starts better when warm now.

  • @ismokewead420 well some of the newer briggs are different but the original easy spin briggs used a separate , small, barely noticeable lobe on the cam (similar to the lobes that open the valves for operation, only much smaller) which would open the intake valve ever so slightly on compression. B&S claimed that at normal operating speeds the valve was not open long enough to make a difference. Personally, I believe it does in fact impact the performance of the engine. (cont)

  • @ismokewead420 (continued)

it is the same design as b&s 16.5 hp ohv vertical shaft engines.

  • @KrankieV2 ahhh, i understand now, but you say briggs doesn't use a "lever" but a lobe,? as in a small bump on the round side of the lobe, or a separate lobe that moves away when rpm is high?(aka "lever") asking because i recently was inside of a b&s vanguard 5hp ohv, and it had a "lever" on the face of the cam gear, that moved away by centifugal force.? hard to explain, but i think

  • @ismokewead420 it's a briggs so it's not a lever but a lobe. I hate the design of the B&S decompression. the comp. release was disabled but the starter was also toast. the new starter starts it okay unless it's right at compression before it turns over

  • @KrankieV2 i don't think that's the starter, you need to checkl your valve lash. your engine probably has a compression release mechanism that is just a lever on your cam that opens the exhaust valve slightly when turning over. if your valves are out of adjustment, the exhaust valve will not open.

  • me n a buddy have a tecumseh 16 horse but we dont know where to buy parts for it? ne ideas?
