@RelVleDy やってみよう means "Let's try", while やってる means "Let's do (this)". They are different because "やってみよう" have the additional meaning of "try".

yes mattForce5, やってみよう is the volitional form of やってみる, consisting "let's try". The polite form of やってみる is やってみます, then it becomes やってみましょう.
