  • When I was a kid I had the Matchbox toys Scammell and trailer- the sort that carried a power station boiler. Budgie also did a Scammell as did Dinky. They were such big vehicles. Nowadays, they don't seem so big at all as trucks have got so massive. I remember seeing loads of Shell Mex and BP Scammell tankers on the road near Fawley refinery in Hampshire- very impressive- circa 1967.

  • There's a immaculately restored 1967 Routeman II in Australia - was a ex-Shell Oil Company of Australia tanker running out of Sydney - my mate Graham Kircher owns it!

    Joe

  • The red one is a Crusader, the white one is a Routeman, and the one on the trailer is I think an early Highwayman.

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the red Scammell and the white one on the trailer at the end please?

  • Nice video! 5 stars . I love heavy haulage especially when we see these old motors still being looked after.

  • use to go with my dad in his 8 wheeler routeman for hall aggregates in the 1970s happy days gary

  • my dad had some 8 wheeler scammell tippers back in the 70's. i was in a breakers yard back in 1995 and the owner had a load of sleeper cab tractor units. i never seen one on the road but they looked so good. i wonder are there many left

  • Beautiful. Thanks for posting. The Handyman shot brought back many memories of that classic cab design.

Hoveringham, Shell, Blue Circle were all big users. Hardly a building site was complete without an 8x4 Scammell tipper. Anyone remember Brush Aggregates, Reece Bros, Tiptree Manure Co in Essex?? All big Scammell fans.
