Yeah but Lincoln's republicanism is not recognizable today. He fought for Federal power over "states rights" and any beliefs in personal liberty - like the right to dress how you want and have sex with who you want (who is of legal age) in privacy without being declared a criminal - have all but disintegrated in today's GOP. Independent of any party is the way to go.
