U.S. Poet Laureate (2004-2006) Ted Kooser is a major poetic voice for rural and small town America and the award-winning author of ten collections of poetry, most recently 2004's Pulitzer Prize-winning Delights and Shadows. Nebraskan Kooser often draws from his native Great Plains and his poems are acclaimed for their simple, straightforward style. Kooser reads from his poetry before a standing-room only audience in Campbell Hall at UC Santa Barbara. [8/2005] [Humanities] [Arts and Music] [Show ID: 9537]

  • "On this day each year you loved to relate

that the moment of your birth

your mother glanced out the window

and saw lilacs in bloom. Well, today

lilacs are blooming in side yards

all over Iowa, still welcoming you."

    sheer genius

  • nathanfrost, if you'd done some research you'd know that Kooser recently recovered from mouth cancer and had his saliva glands removed, hence the little noises his mouth makes.

  • 24:56 very funny

  • "Pearl" is one of the most beautiful and saddest poems I've ever heard from Kooser. How could people laugh when this poor woman is describing the phantoms? It makes me shiver and shake. He's beautiful. And there's even something about the smacking of his lips that complete the effect.

  • go to 21:00

  • he is so funny !! and very talented. but his constant smacking is driving me crazy!!! but he is so good that i can't stop watching !!!! so frustrating!

  • he is seriously dehydrated

  • @cosg9531 You sound very undereducated and idiotic.
