  • There was a tiny 7'3" guy named Arvydas Sabonis who at one time was ranked only behind Oscar Schmidt, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan as the best players in the world before all of his injuries. Imagine Kareem who could pass like Magic, defend like Russell, and shoot like Bird. That's the only way to explain the scope of Sabonis' early years.

  • @MrChug Shoots like Larry? Seems a bit overstated....

  • He was a senior that year, and tore his ACL, prompting a medical redshirt, and granting him a 5th year of eligibility, where he and another NBA great Sean Elliott, along with Kenny Lofton (MLB player Cleveland Indians) and Tom Tolbert (Golden State Warriors) ended up leading to Arizona's 1st Final Four.

  • I grew up in the Bay Area and had the chance to watch Sarunas play almost every other night for 5+ years for the Golden State Warriors. I first saw him play back in '86 for the USSR when they played the University of Arizona in an exhibition. Ironically, that game was the game that changed the life of a guy named Steve Kerr, the NBA's all-time 3 point percentage leader.

  • 0:35 - major travel

  • @Sweeetchildren no what i meant was before he did the euro-step. at 0:03 he was in triple-threat position, but he moved both his left and right feet, that's a travel, no?

  • @iamneoweisheng89 That's euro-step used by Manu Ginobili :D

  • @Emil308 was about to say the same exact thing. lol.

  • Being from Oakland a huge GSW fan I have his highlights etched in my memory . I can't say in this game this play what he did but I'll say in 40yrs of watching basketball and this is hard to explain . Šarūnas would literally take the ball out of players hands for a steal. Not slap it out or knock it away , just take it from them. Strong hands the dude was a stud . nobody ever got in his face either and the NBA back then was way more physical than it is now. Šarūnas had game period. Great player

  • TRAVEL! Wow, how many times did he move his left pivot foot when he faced up on that first move lol

  • correct me if im wrong, but isn't it a travel at 0:03?
