Richard Shireby plays the 1877 Conacher tracker pipe organ in the workshop of Ireland-Shireby church organ builders (Lincolnshire, UK) as the organ nears the completion of it's restoration.

This item was recorded off the workshop's internal CCTV system as an experiment & an alternative of using a camcorder.

  • Nice sound but too hurried.... It is sung slowly and more prayerfully.

  • It may well be sung slower at your church, but it certainly isn't at mine. I am organist at six churches & all of them have different tempo requirements. There is no right & wrong in this...I simply do as I am told - that way I keep my job!

  • I start off with,Flute 4ft & Stp diap 8ft on the Great coupled to the swell with Lieblich gedact 8ft & Salicional 8ft, & Pedal, Bourdon 16ft, & towards the last verse full swell, with no reeds for this one, of course this can be varied.

  • so do i. What registrations do you use?

  • Nice one ! for a tip i usually start this one

off fairly softly & build up towards the last verse.
